Go through any list on the internet titled "Top 10 highest paying jobs" or "Hot careers of the decade", and you are most likely to find at least a career involving ICT/digital skills on the list. To be more specific, a recent report released by Coursera, one of the world's leading online educational platforms, and presenting data from more than 100 million learners showed a high interest in ICT/digital skills, with learners from the developing world showing the most interest.
This report from Coursera is buttressed by the 2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survey which showed that "learning to code online increased from 60% to 70% year over year." Percentage of techies and prospective techies who were learning to code online far exceeded those learning to code from school. And Python was amongst the top 2 most sought-after languages for learners.
This talk aims to pose and answer some questions on the "Why", the "Where", the "How" and the "What next" behind these trends, especially for learners from Sub-Saharan Africa. Let's figure out what there is to know about learning Python online!
